The charm and rich history of the legendary Uptown dance hall Latin Quarter has been brought to Midtown by owner and latin music impresario Ralph Mercado. LQ sizzles with a fusion of Asian and Latin style and an ultra lounge vibe. There’s plenty of space to kick back and relax, but for those with deeper pockets, there are a couple of VIP Lounges. LQ also serves as an elegant restaurant with traditional dishes and creative Asian/Latin fare.
LQ is a fine addition to Manhattan's mega-club revival. It is part steamy Shanghai lounge and part la vida loca Latin dance club. LQ packs five different experiences into 15,000 square feet: a crowded singles-heavy bar, a recessed dance floor surrounded by banquettes, a downstairs lounge set to the sounds of hip-hop and R&B, a VIP lair beneath Chinese-style marble arches and yet another upstairs VIP lounge. This commanding space (boasting a capacity of over 1,000 heads) is well furnished and draws the attention of Park and Lex lovelies that are too polished for the downtown drudge.
The crowd, while somewhat corporate--think bankers in Thomas Pink shirts--knows how to have a good time. Preface drinks with creative appetizers, such as the bite-size roe-covered shrimp dumplings and flavorful crab cakes. Only the daring should try the carpaccio-style Thai beef salad. The champagne cocktails are refreshing and creative: Opt for the Ice Queen, topped with aquavit, Chambord and lime juice and garnished with raspberries. In keeping with the Latin theme, bottle service includes an impressive selection of tequilas, rums, and vodkas.
